Topic: Senatus Populusque Romanus -Declaration of Hostis Romae Against Julius Caesar

It’s 44 BCE. Tensions within the Roman Senate have reached a critical point as debates arise over how to approach Caesar’s position in Rome. Many senators view his accumulation of power as a betrayal of the Republic, and his appointment as dictator perpetuo is seen as a direct affront to Rome’s traditions of shared governance, stoking fears of monarchy. Furthermore, his disregard for senatorial authority, such as bypassing the Senate in political decisions, has alienated much of the aristocracy. His increasing favoritism toward the populares has widened the rift with the traditionalist optimates. Though the majority proposes a formal declaration of him as an Enemy of Rome, whispers among a few senators suggest they may be considering a more permanent solution to restore the Republic.
