Frequently Asked Questions

What is MUN about?

Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation replicating the United Nations (UN) procedures. It serves as a valuable tool for educating students about diplomacy and international relations. Participants, acting as delegates, represent different countries and engage in meaningful debates within their committees to address global issues. The outcomes, referred to as resolutions, are subsequently presented in the General Assembly (GA).

Where is AlejMUN taking place?

AlejMUN, organized by the school Gymnázium Nad Alejí, is hosted in Prague. The debating sessions are held at our school. The opening ceremony takes place at the WPP campus, while the closing ceremony, along with the GA, is held at the Prague Municipal Hall. You can find the exact locations on our website.

How can I apply to your conference? Can I bring my friends?

To apply to our conference, please visit our official conference website and follow the application instructions. You will need to provide some personal information, indicate your committee choices, and submit a short application letter stating why you would like to participate in AlejMUN. You can either apply as an individual or bring your classmates as a delegation under the supervision of one of your teachers.

Do I need to have previous experience before joining AlejMUN?

AlejMUN welcomes participants with varying levels of experience. While prior experience can be beneficial, it is not a requirement, and we are more than pleased to welcome newcomers. We always offer guidance to new delegates, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to the organizers if you have any questions.

Is there any source where I can study the rules of the debate?

Yes, we provide delegates with standardized Rules of Procedure before the conference, crafted to realistically represent the rules adopted by the UN. These documents are accessible on our official website, and we strongly recommend studying them before attending the conference. If you have any questions about them, both prior to and during the conference, contact any of the organizers, and we will provide you with the needed answers.

What research should I do before the conference? What is a position paper?

Before the conference, delegates should research their assigned country’s stance on the committee’s topics. A position paper is a document outlining a delegate’s country’s perspective, proposed solutions, and relevant information. It serves as a basis for debate and showcases the delegate’s understanding of the issues at hand.

How many committees are at AlejMUN?

This year, AlejMUN features exactly six committees: Security Council (SC), Historical Committee (HSC), Human Rights Council (HRC), Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Furthermore, you can also join the conference in the role of a lobbyist.

What is the General Assembly (GA) about?

The General Assembly is the grand finale of the debates. On the last day of the conference, all committees come together to present the resolutions they have crafted in the past two days. This is followed by a fruitful discussion, allowing delegates from various committees to voice their opinions on the presented resolutions.

Are there any awards at AlejMUN?

Yes, AlejMUN offers awards to recognize outstanding delegates. Our awards include Best Delegate, Distinguished Delegate, and Best Newcomer. However, we acknowledge the great work of all delegates, and each one deserves praise.
